Ok, something is wrong...I am in Bulgaria and I have dedicated FO connection to my ISP with 30Mbps 100% guaranteed traffic. This is my Traceroot: Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops

Trace complete.
I see "packet loss" at Hop #4, but this is just an ICMP filtering on the gateway. There is a small packet loss at Hop #12 (also shown by PingPlotter as 10-15% loss), but this is nothing severe. At the same time I could download from the EVE site with approx. 2MB/s etc...
Anyway, after the Boost patch I have two problems with EVE - running more than one client on the PC causes constant crashes of the inactive clients and now in the last two days I can't connect. I've tried different PCs, reinstalled Windows, EVE, DX9c, Drivers - nothing helps... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

Actually, another thing came to my mind - as far as I know the CCP Data Center has several interconnections to the Internet backbone. Level3 is one of the CCPs ISPs, right? Ok, if Level3 has a problem (see my traceroot above - Hop 12), then why CCP don't just ask Level3 if everything in their network is in order? Level 3 Online Customer Service Center
P.S. Keep in mind that different EVE players use different ISPs, so the route between their client machines and CCP could be very different. If Level 3 has a problem with only one of their routers, then the problem will be somewhat limited to a small number of EVE users, but it does not make it less annoying... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

I've did two things: 1. Deleted the EVE cache from the file system manually 2. Changed the PREFS.INI to enable networkAdvanced=1
Nothing changed in my EVE Login screen - I didn't get the optional "Port" edit box, but at least I was able to log in after 2 unsuccessfull attempts - it is ok for the last 10 minutes, no disconnects so far.

Yeah, changing the port to 3724 (as recommended in the Sticky forum topic) actually makes the CCP host inaccessible... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

Karim,
I've noticed the first hops of your trace - you are on EKK via CaTV, right? Ok, my ISP is InterBG Com - the business provider of EKK. There is something wrong with EKK/ InterBGC. I use EKK at home as well. This morning I've tried to connect from laptop at home by using my neighbour's ISP - (CentrumGroup / Lirex whatever) - no issues there. I've played for 30 minutes, then I went to the office 30 minutes later and I've got the same problem as last night. We've sniffed the traffic from our office and it turned out that the packets going out to CCP are with wrong checksums (malformed). The client disconnects after sending approximately 30 malformed packets out. I thought it is our router / firewall that creates the problem, so I've connected my laptop in our lab to a different router that goes out without a firewall. The same ****. On the other hand there are many other people from different countries complaining about the same issue. Simply, there is something in the EVE Client which some of the ISPs do not like at all...Tell me what it is, because I can't guess anymore... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

I'll try to disable the TCP off-loading feature on the NICs of the ISA and the Gateway (IBM x3250 machines with Intel Server NICs), but I doubt this could be a problem. This happens only with packets sent by EVE. When we tested with a laptop connected to directly to a Cisco edge router, it was the same. The sniffer marks the malformed packets and I just see that after 20-30 malformed packets sent from the client ot CCP server, the transmission gets broken and the client disconnects.
CCP are ignoring the issue, but this is a well hidden bug in the "patched" client. I noticed they comment on other issues, so they read this discussion as well...Hiding your head in the sand (read: azz) does not help... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

OK, I've disabled the TCP/IP Checksum off-loading and the "Wrong Checksum" packets issue in the Winshark capture disappeared, but the constant disconnects continue. ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

Ok, today was a little bit better, but still - constant disconnects - every 20-30 minutes, instead of every 2-3 minutes. I've prepared LogServer & WinShark Capture for a period of 10 minutes. I'll send them to CCP to investigate...let's see... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

Edited by: Hawk TT on 08/04/2008 16:32:22 This is nothing to do with the available bandwidth - I have 15 Megabits (Fiber), 40ms latency, no packet losses. I was busy last week, but I've played on 04 Apr 2008 and 05 Apr 2008 (last Thursday and Friday) and it was OK, but the constant disconnects have came back since Saturday...I have a LogServer Capture with simultaneous Winshark Capture, but they are old now. I will make a new set and will send a petition to CCP with the files attached. I believe this would be better than crying on the forum... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

OK, finally I've found time to submit detailed petition with well structured description of the problems + LogServer capture + Winshark capture + DXDiag capture + SysInfo capture.
Hopefully CCP will take this seriouslly.

IF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AFTER THE BOOST PATCH, PLEASE, POST IN THIS TOPIC, SO CCP COULD REALIZE, THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM!
CCP has replied to my petition. Their suggestion was a COPY & PASTE answer. It is so irellevant, that I am really devastated
I've spent hours preparing a detailed report for the problem. I've attached a ZIP archive with Winshark capture, LogServer capture, DXDiag Capture, SysInfo Capture, Pingplotter Capture etc. Based on their response, it is PRETTY obvious that no body bothered to read / check what I have sent.
The petition is still NOT CLOSED, so I will be waiting for a couple of days, before taking further actions.

Hmm...interesting obesrvaiton - I managed to connect today and switched skills. I was pleasently surprised, but now I recall - it was 10 minutes after the DT ended, so there were less than 20K players...
I hope that the patch on Tuesday will solve the problem somehow ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

Edited by: Hawk TT on 14/04/2008 20:22:20 Edited by: Hawk TT on 14/04/2008 20:20:16 THE "MYSTERY" IS REVEALED
OK, I think it is about time CCP to shed some light on what they have actually did with the "BOOST" Patch?
Becasue my petition was still "OPEN" and I had no further information from CCP I decided to make a WireShark capture of my COMPLETE traffic WITHOUT filters. I was pretty surprised when I noticed the following odd things: 1. Every now and then, even during the initial startup, the EVE client SENDS ICMP REQUESTS to ice5a.vivox.com (70.42.62.80) WHICH FAIL BECAUSE OF THE ICMP FILTERING ENABLED ON MY ISP GATEWAY - MANY ISPs ENABLE VARIOUS ICMP DYNAMIC FILTERS AS A SECURITY PRECAUTION. So, the ICMP requests to the useless EVE-VOICE related host fail and for some reason the EVE client "decides" that there is a communication problem with the GAME SERVER CLUSTER. After a few retransmission attempts between the client (my PC) and the server (CCP Server @ 87.237.38.200) the client disconnects. 2. Another fact: I DON'T USE EVE VOICE, BUT I HAVE IT ENABLED. Anyway, the EVE client COMMUNICATES ALL THE TIME WITH VARIOUS EVE-VOICE-RELATED HOSTS during your play:
- mpx4c.vivox.com (64.34.14.32) - RTP / RTCP Protocol
- ice5a.vivox.com (70.42.62.80) - SIP (?!?) Protocol
- mph6ea.vivox.com (64.127.123.202) - STUN Protocol
- lb5-www-eve.vivox.com (70.42.62.151) - SSLV2 Protocol
- Almost all of the above - UDP Protocol
3. If you are lucky enough and log-on successfully, you HAVE THE CHANCE TO DISABLE AUDIO / EVE VOICE. After that you COULD PLAY WITHOUT DISCONNECTS. THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE INITIAL LOG-ON PROBLEM, because EVE still tries to PING ice5a.vivox.com during startup - remember, the audio-settings are per character, not per client installation. 4. Unfortunately there is no prefs.ini setting I am aware of, to DISABLE EVE-VOICE, so I can't test what would happen if THERE IS NO EVE-VOICE AT ALL. I wish I had this option, so I could get rid of all disconnect problems.
The question is: What had been changed in the EVE client so it disconnects AFTER UNSUCCESSFULL PING TO THE ICE5a.VIVOX.COM host?
Of course, I would like to see some CCP GameDevs to comment on the issue and my findings. I feel really frustrated, because my job IS NOT TO DEBUG EVE, my job is to PLAY THE GAME, BECAUSE I PAY FOR THAT "PRIVILIGE". At least CCP could have made the effort TO READ ALL THE CONTENTS OF MY PETITION...
The hope dies last...
Cheers Hawk

Last night I finally got a decent development on my petition - the GM asked me to fill a bug report, which goes to the DevTeam. I did so and I attached lots of information (LogServer & Wireshark captures etc.). Hopefully the Devs will investigate the issue. ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |

I've just prepared a set of new LogServer / Wireshark captures and send them to the devs.
There are 33K+ active players at the moment, and I can't even log in...
The new patch did not change anything... ___________________________________ Science & Diplomacy Manager @ BECKS Sons of Tangra Alliance (SOT) |
